What are you monitoring in the tropics right now? With the heat ridge backing westward and away from Texas, rain chances will return Saturday and last for several days into next week. The best we can hope for in the summer months is to get some tropical moisture to bring rainfall, and it looks like we might get just that starting this weekend. We expect our Heat Advisory will be extended throughout the week ahead, with feels-like or heat index values between 108 and 112 degrees. The heat ridge (aka the heat dome) will park over us through Wednesday, giving Houston a string of 100 days through Thursday. How long will the heat ridge stay over Texas? It'll be hard to find any clouds in the sky Tuesday, allowing the temperature to hit around 101 degrees for a high in Houston. We should start off with temperatures again around 80 degrees Monday morning. The last time the temperature dropped below 80 was last Monday, July 10. Morning lows Tuesday will again be near record warm values, and if the mercury does not drop below 80 degrees, it will set a new record at Bush Airport for the most consecutive days without dropping below 80. Heat index values will peak between 108 to 112 degrees in most neighborhoods.
